In this beginner-friendly kintsugi workshop, you'll delve into the art of repairing broken pottery. Kintsugi is rooted in the philosophy of wabi-sabi (embracing imperfection), highlighting the "imperfections" with metal powders, transforming your broken piece into a unique piece of art. You will explore the history and philosophy behind kintsugi, learn the basic techniques of modern kintsugi repairing, and have the opportunity to repair their broken ceramic piece or provided ceramic piece. The workshop will last around 1.5 hours with all materials included. For ages 18+. Questions? Email Lisa at lryan@sawyerfreelibrary.org

Tad Murao is the proud owner of this small business specializing in kintsugi repair work in the Greater Boston area. Raised in Japan, his passion for craftsmanship led him to explore kintsugi after a career shift. While attending a kintsugi workshop in Kyoto for leisure, he rediscovered his love of working with his hands and found a new appreciation for sustainable practices that were centuries old. Kintsugi's ability to breathe new life into broken objects resonated with him, sparking a passion to preserve the stories. His business offers kintsugi repair services and workshops.
